Drawing Lab :: Miro Abstract

Drawing LabThe Miro Abstract Drawing Lab was to create images in Miro’s style. This lab felt comfortable and fun. I felt like I was using both sides of my brain – the right to create the images and the left to connect them to one another. As with all my drawings, I used a variety of drawing and coloring tools, among them were a drawing pencil, a drawing pen, colored permanent markers, highlighters and colored pencils. There is also a watercolor background.

Love Miro’s trippy aesthetic:

My friend, Angie, is having a link-up for the book, Drawing Lab on her blog. She’s going to attempt weekly labs with the three generations of her family and is inviting anyone else to draw along. Stop by to post your link with her lab or just take a look at all the participant’s drawings.

Drawing Lab :: Picasso Dogs

The Picasso Dogs Drawing Lab was to create an image of a dog in Picasso’s style. I love Picasso for many reasons and this was a great exercise to get back in to the labs after a couple months’ break. Drawing Lab :: Eight

Lab Eight was to let random paint marks “tell” you what to draw. By using red, yellow and blue watercolors in random strokes, you would find a drawing and literally draw it out with your pen. The boys loved this exercise. We did the watercolor strokes just before bed one night and made our drawings… Continue Reading

Drawing Lab :: Seven

Lab Seven was to layer color with only four choices. The reference image is a monkey face and we pre-selected kid markers and one pastel each. I was lucky to have pastels on hand – they were from college in the late 80s and still work! The boys began to groan a bit after the… Continue Reading

Drawing Lab :: Two

Lab Two was to try Blind Contour Drawing. You have a reference image, in this case, giraffes. You don’t look at what you’re drawing, but use your eyes to follow the line of the giraffe in the reference image. I loved doing this. I concentrated on the outline of the giraffe and didn’t worry about… Continue Reading

She’s going to attempt the weekly assignments with the three generations of her family and is inviting anyone else to draw along. The boys and I did the first lab, which is to draw cats in bed. Many cats, much… Continue Reading
