OM :: The Hoarder Files

Whenever I get very busy with my business, the first thing to fall into disarray is housekeeping. I’m not a very astute housekeeper in any case. It is usually the last thing on my mind.

But…. when the laundry is piled high and the clutter is piled high, my stress level becomes piled high. It’s like walking through a pre-hoarder house and realizing that you can be close to just giving up and going on A&E in a few months.

My dream is that when Oprah comes to spontaneously knock on my door, I can invite her in to a lived-in, but neat and organized home, where sane people live.

Housekeeping is one of my life struggles. It has been since I was a child. I see it in my boys too. And I’d like to be a better example to them on how to keep things tidy. My moment about this is to be hopeful that I will achieve my dream someday (maybe not the Oprah part, but a drop-in by someone) and to work on having a place for everything when I have a moment.

  1. Cyn, I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU! Clutter compounds stress. I’m sure I’ve told you this before, but it bears repeating…cleaning help is worth it’s weight in gold! Today is a “Debbie Day” for me, and coming home to the smell of lemon and seeing clean floors etc…is such a great feeling. she comes twice a week and that also makes us keep the clutter under control, because it kinda forces the whole family to do a pickup the night before she comes!

    BTW – I’m loving your sidebars, they look so awesome. Sigh, I so wish I hadn’t committed to 800 pix wide photos on my blog…I dream of the day someone invents a plugin that goes back and resizes all your blog photos for you. 🙂

  2. Oh, I think this is a good thing. We all have our obsessions, and unfortunately mine is cleaning. I actually think this is more of a curse than a gift or a blessing. Do you want to switch personalities for a while, and see which is better 😉

  3. If it makes you feel better, if someone were to knock on my door right now, I would pretend no one was home. It’s THAT bad… which is the norm.

  4. I’m with Candy. I finally gave up and hired someone to help. It has saved me from losing my mind. I’d be buried under a heap of dirty tube socks if it weren’t for my beloved Angela!! If not for her, I’d be hiding behind closed doors like Angie. Even with help, there are days I hide.
