OM :: The Final Marriage

ring, originally uploaded by *momoc.

So, I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell my sons that I was married before I married their dad. I got married to my college sweetheart and after six years, the simple phrase I give when people ask is that “we grew apart”.

There is nothing simple about divorce. We were calm and cordial about it, but it wasn’t simple. There were no kids, but (you guessed it), it wasn’t simple.

I’ve been trepidacious about telling the boys, wanting to make sure they understood that that marriage was different than this one. I wanted to reassure them that we love each other and will be together for as long as we’re able.

The opportunity presented itself at dinner this week. The boys were talking about people being married and it was as if they were doing a segue for me to bring up the one in my past. I looked at my husband and he said, “It’s the right time.”

So, I spilled the nuptial beans and expected shock and questions and maybe some tears.

I got giggles from both and a “That’s weird.” from one. No questions, no worries, no concern. I really should have known better. Live and learn, forever and always.

OM :: The Little White Dog

Jane was her name and she was a feisty goddess of a dog. She passed away this week and I cried for her. I’m welling up now with tears… I’ve only known her through the wonderful photos that her human, Sarah, has taken of her and some of the blog posts I’ve read. But I…Continue Reading

OM :: The Dog Bite

bad intentions, originally uploaded by gagilas. While on vacation, Eli was bit by a dog. Its owner had left her dog outside a store to use the restroom. Eli walked out the door first and automatically reached out his hand to pet the dog. Quick nip. Long, ear-ringing wail. Bloody finger. Cowering dog. It was…Continue Reading

OM :: The Less is More

“…I don’t think I”m the only creative person who struggled with plunging too deeply into the rush of feeling creative and not being creative. And what is here applied to crafty blogs can be applied to other things. Reading food blogs without ever cooking more. Reading health food blogs without eating healthier. Reading productivity books…Continue Reading

OM :: The Making of Things

I’ve been meaning to purchase a set of wrist warmers for a couple winters now. I browse on Etsy and see sets I like and then never pull the trigger. This week I was browsing around again (when my hands were cold, of course) and realized I could make my own. I know enough about…Continue Reading

OM :: The Ripple Effect

While working at home for the past few months, there is the almost constant sound of chainsaws, mixed in with other various tree maintenance equipment. The moaning and churning and grinding seems never-ending in the daylight hours. All this activity stems from the freak winter storm last October. We lost some of our trees. One…Continue Reading

OM Life With Boys Edition :: The WTW?

We are one of those families that I thought we weren’t going to be… we run from here to there, doing lots of different activities and ending up with a very full week of stuff to do. I drive a mom taxi and even typing that makes me cringe. But our bustling days are only…Continue Reading
