Monet prints were everywhere in the 1980s and early 90s. This great artist’s work saturated our culture and attracted detractors in the process.

I think he’s rad. Here’s my photographic homage.

Colors of pink, purple, yellow and spring green are everywhere.

We’ve lived in this house for about eight years. Every spring, this one hyacinth pokes its head out of the ground and says hello. Then, it gets broken by big dog paws or picked by little hands or crushed by getting-bigger-all-the-time boy feet. It never gets a chance to bloom properly.

Cross your fingers… 2011 may be it’s year to shine!

We put in this swing-set when my eight-year-old was two. The kids still love it. Even though I’d like to retire it this year to landscape and plan our yard to be a little more “us”, I don’t see that happening.

The swing-set is about as “us” as anything can be.

One Response to 52 Pick-Up :: Week 32

  1. Love it! We put up our swing set 4 years ago. It’s been used everyday since in snow or sunshine. One of the best investments we ever made!

The collective hope of no more flakes this season is so powerful. When the weather warmed up for a few days a couple weeks ago, it was as if everyone had won a super prize or had gotten lucky.

I think we’ve been in our backyard once since December. The snow was too deep to trek through and this poor hammock (which should have probably wintered inside) has been covered in snow. But it’s been ridiculously warm here for the past week…

So, it must be hammock-climbing, mud season.

But it was on our 5th snow day in 3 weeks.
Not a bad way to spend time inside.
Oh, I won, by the way.

  1. Fabulous photo! Do your kids get REALLY dramatic when they knock you off the board with a Sorry? Mine have a forceful hand snap that sends my little yellow self flying across the room followed by an evil laugh.

We have family in Colorado and visit about twice a year. We made a quick trip there this weekend for a wedding. The body does not adapt to time zone changes quickly, so I was up at dawn. Luckily, that’s when the deer graze through the grasses of the wise people who do not landscape their lawns, but let nature take over.

Documenting the brief turn of a leaf… this Japanese maple leaves turn red for about 10 days. And without fail, every year within those 10 days, we get a storm that blows the delicate leaves off and away.

The leaves have already met with the rake.

  1. Gorgeous! We raked the backyard, but didn’t get to the front before the snow. If you need to get to my front door, you’ll be met with the biggest pile of leaves you’ll ever see. Love my trees, except in November.

I don’t often get truly surprised when I hike/run on familiar trails. I appreciate being outside and enjoying nature as much as possible and when I see something I’ve never seen before, it is remarkable.

This shock of pink was so pretty, I used my cell phone to capture the image. I wish I had my regular camera, but feel lucky to have captured what I saw that morning. A friend on Flickr likened it to Monet and she is oh so right.

Just spent a lovely weekend in Cape Cod, Magic-chussettes (as my 5yo says.) My husband and I were alone together for about 48 hours for the first time since the first boy was born. We’ve had a few overnights in these past years, but not TWO! We will definitely be making that a yearly tradition. And walking the beach in fall was a great experience.

The first day of fall and this is the last Daylily. There is something about the light around this time of year that seems to bring out vibrant colors in a striking way (see tomato in yesterday’s post here.) The more I bring my camera places and the more I snap what I see through the lens, the greater my satisfaction with my photographs. It’s what I tell my sons all the time: to get better at something, you need to practice. Well, duh.

4 Responses to 52 Pick-Up :: Week 3

  1. I love this image. The more you carry your camera around, the more you will notice the beauty surrounding you. Even my husband says he notices beautiful clouds or a cool flower thanks to my photography obsession. Someone recently said to me, people who hide behind their cameras miss out on the experience of life. I completely disagree. I think I notice more of the detail of life, which makes every day much sweeter than before.

  2. I love this photo. The perspective is perfect. It’s great how the top and bottom of the photo fades away. Nice job. I agree with Angie. I’ve noticed more of the details in our lives and when I look back on my photos I have vivid memories of what we were doing, where we were, etc. Much more meaningful to me.

  3. Thank you both for the compliments! Let me get on my soapbox for a moment:

    When applied the way it’s intended, photography enhances your experiences. It doesn’t overshadow them. And I look forward to seeing my friend’s photos as much as my own to “see” what they’re up to. Let’s keep shooting, ladies!
