Running Partner

I’ve done quite a bit of navel gazing about why I’ve fallen off the running wagon, especially as my girth has gotten girthier. I ran 522 miles in 2011. That’s roughly 10 miles a week. I ran about 200 miles in the first 6 months of 2012, about 7 1/2 miles per week. Then, just a run here or there and maybe a month of commitment before stopping again. My conclusion as to why sits squarely with my dog.

Scout was diagnosed with moderate arthritis in the summer of 2012. Walks were fine, but no more running. I didn’t realize at the time that her diagnosis would affect my workouts. Since I’ve been working from home, finding time to get up and get out for exercise would seem to be effortless. But anyone who runs his or her own business will tell you, there is never enough time in the day for everything that needs doing. You have to make time for the important things and getting out with Scout has been a priority since we brought her home as a pup.

Now that I’ve figured out why I stopped, I’ve started running again. I run every other day, working my way back up to 3 miles at a pop. Scout can run with me as I train, but soon enough, she won’t be able to tolerate the mileage. My husband is going to fill in the gaps, so we can keep Scout happy and well adjusted. Oh, that goes for me too.

Body Movin’ 2013 :: New Shoes

I’d rather eat bugs than treadmill run. That is an almost true statement. I was trying to come up with some dramatic action I might actually do that would illustrate my loathing of running on a machine inside. If eating bugs could be consider a workout, it wouldn’t be a contest. Up until July of…Continue Reading

Old Lady

I run with A-Dog a few times during the week. I can hardly stay inside my skin when I know she’s getting ready for a run and I might be going too. She used to take me every time, but as I grow older, I’m not allowed to go every day. Recently, my body started…Continue Reading

OM :: The Miles

One of my favorite quotes from the accidentally-wise, Mike Tyson, is “Everybody’s got plans… until they get hit.” Oh, the plans I had for October… But I’ve been doing this work-at-home, be your own boss indie biz for long enough to know that you make your plan and you cross off what you can. One…Continue Reading

Run RiverDog Run

I’ve started running again, yay me! When I say again, I must give you a little background… I’ve never been a runner, I’m more of a jogger, but it’s not cool to say jog anymore. That phrase got held back in the 70s and now it’s run. Because I like to be honest, I have…Continue Reading

44 x 44 – Run, Mama, Run

I think I’m going to run a 5K in less than 3 weeks. “I think” because of a few reasons: a) I haven’t been training to race b) I’m the slowest runner in creation and will most surely come in last c) I need to break in my new shoes Okay, that last reason is…Continue Reading

In the Doghouse

Originally published 11-12-08 The humans are so angry. I can’t help myself… I’m a dirty dog. Me and A-Dog have been out running for the past couple weeks. She takes me places where I can run free (as long as no one is there), because I run too fast for her. When she’s holding the…Continue Reading
