I’ve done quite a bit of navel gazing about why I’ve fallen off the running wagon, especially as my girth has gotten girthier. I ran 522 miles in 2011. That’s roughly 10 miles a week. I ran about 200 miles in the first 6 months of 2012, about 7 1/2 miles per week. Then, just a run here or there and maybe a month of commitment before stopping again. My conclusion as to why sits squarely with my dog.
Now that I’ve figured out why I stopped, I’ve started running again. I run every other day, working my way back up to 3 miles at a pop. Scout can run with me as I train, but soon enough, she won’t be able to tolerate the mileage. My husband is going to fill in the gaps, so we can keep Scout happy and well adjusted. Oh, that goes for me too.

I believe a good running partner is the ‘secret sauce’ that keeps you coming back for more. Treasure your dashes with Scout 🙂
See, I had the opposite with Ripley. He made me get outside and walk. And walk and walk and walk around West Hartford Center. And now that we’re east of the river, he practically pulls me out of our driveway in the afternoons and its become my post-9-to-5 saving grace. We did 9 miles this week – and three more on the docket for tomorrow.
We really need to get out with Casey more- we’re terrible in the winter. Where do you run? My husband would love to run but the neighborhood is a little hilly. If you need a running buddy, we have a very energetic pooch we can share. 🙂
