Summer Schedule

Recently, my husband and I had what you might call a heated discussion about my work schedule. I tend to work whenever I perceive a free moment at home. And I work every single day.

I never thought of it as a problem. But I must admit, when I gave it some thought from my family’s perspective, it would be a good thing to have a schedule.

So, on this first day of summer camp (yay!), I am devising a schedule for myself that will hopefully keep me productive and more available to my family. Do you have a schedule that works for you? Whether you do or not, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Maybe I’ll even try to get a housework schedule going… All these men that live here are sorely in need of some cleaning assignments.

  1. I don’t have a set schedule, but I DO have an entire list of things for my 6 and 8 yr old boys to do to earn marbles each day. It’s my go-to for when I need to work and they are bored.

Examples are: do a puzzle, read a chapter, write in your journal, pick up your room, practice piano, etc. Once they reach a certain number of marbles, they get a special treat. Or they can save up for a bigger treat. They love it!

  2. This is so funny. My husband and I had a similar conversation a couple weeks ago. Since we’re still kidless his argument was coming more from the “your business works for you, you don’t work for your business” point of view. We worked on putting together a daily schedule for me and it’s been a HUGE help. I’m way more focused on tasks when I need to be and actually feel productive at the end of the day. Hope it works for you too!

    • Exactly what I need, Melanie, a firm daily schedule. There are days when I am so unfocused, which leads to unproductive, which leads to working too much. Glad it’s not just me!

      • ruh roh! i have a schedule, but it is basically a workaholic’s schedule, partly because i’m working against a deadline right now, and partly because i don’t have anyone but myself to check it. having the new serving job is a helpful commitment for my art making because it means i have to be sure to get it in before going to work or on my days off. i totally believe in setting a schedule and guarding both business time and family time!
