OM :: The Tooth

In reading Candy’s blog, Candied Fabrics, she mentioned a new meetup called OM. OM is *one moment* and is a new meetup designed to notice & relish a moment in everyday life. The meetup idea was created by Linda at her blog, a la mode stuff. While walking her dog, she took notice of beautiful things in her neighborhood that she had never appreciated before and the meetup idea was born.

snaggle-toothno-tooth
My oldest son lost his front tooth this week. He insisted that the tooth should just fall out of his head, rather than pull on it AT ALL. The first photo I had to snap because his tooth looked so ridiculous just hanging there. Needless to say, that night, the tooth got twisted right before bed and needed to come out. Oy, the drama! But now I know why the tooth fairy was invented… to convince children to let parents pull out their teeth, so they don’t choke on them during the night. All is well, as you can see, and Ms. Fairy left a book, a dollar & a cut-out heart with xoxo on it.

1st-gradeI remember losing my front teeth. The incident wasn’t significant, but the right of passage was. I felt very grown up without front teeth, all evidence to the contrary.

And I rock a handmade jumper circa 1972 pretty well.

I enjoy when my moments as a child mirror my boys’ moments. When the memories are vivid and nostalgic, I can relate to their experience fully and be the best parent I can be.

  1. Those moments of shared experiences are wonderful. So great to have the pictures of your son and your picture (’70s jumper and all) to compare and remember. My mouth always seems to hurt a bit when I think about the whole tooth losing event (mine or my boys).

    Thank you for sharing that and have a great weekend!

    • Thanks Linda! And thank you for creating a forum to notice and record these moments. Makes me think a little differently each week.
