Monthly Goals for November

Hello November, how are you? Me? I’m just fine…

Not really, but that’s what you’re supposed to say to be polite, yes? I’m not having a bad month, just a turning point month and this November will be another. Clearly not the best timing, when I rely on holiday card sales to help a rather dismal year. But that’s business. Well, let’s get to October’s cross-offs and I’ll wax more poetic in a bit…

October Business Goals

1* Blog ahead and post at least 5 days a week between my two blogs
I’ve got half of this down and will strive to blog ahead in the coming months
2* Find the right fit for socially sharing photos and designs
Nada-Nope-Nyet
3* Complete filing in my office
I started today (for tax purposes), so I don’t think that counts šŸ™‚
4* Pay some attention to my neglected Etsy shop
I tried, but I must admit, not very hard. I’m feeling very on the fence about Etsy. And you can tell by my sales. You reap what you sow, darlin’.
5* Convert existing designs into digital designs
I did enough to cross this off. I have just a couple more holiday designs to convert.
6* Figure out where I’m going with advertising
I have figured out that I need to have more information before I buy any more ad space. I did a major buy (for me anyway) in Sept/Oct and it did not pay off as I would have liked.

Lots of thoughts about where I’m going with my business have been swirling around my head. Being a one-woman show, as many of you are, pulls you in so many directions that I’m not sure if what I’m doing is productive. So, I made a decision to stop. Not close up shop, but do only what’s necessary to keep things going.

November Business Goals

1* Take Bakery Business Course
2* Blog ahead
3* Complete filing in my office
4* Finish new children’s stationery designs

I’m excited about taking the Bakery Business course. For those of you who don’t know Bakery, I’m not learning how to bake treats. It’s a six-week intense business course for designers from Erin Loechner and Jaime Derringer. Here’s a link if you’re interested in more information http://thinkbakery.com/courses/. This will be my main focus for November and hopefully filling holiday orders. I’m hoping to map my business in such a way that I feel confident in every choice I make and have a plan to grow in the future.

I hope your October’s were productive and your November’s look as hopeful as mine. Thanks again, Jena, for keeping the Monthly Goal Meetup cookin’!

See y’all on your blogs!

  1. good luck for your november goals! the bakery class seems great, can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it! i’m in a similar boat w/ you, it can be so difficult to find the right path! hoping your holidays are fab!

  2. About Etsy, I wish I can reap what I’ve sown. So far my ground has been a dust bowl. No matter how much I promote or how many people I talk to, nothing.

Thanks for the bakery link. Good luck with this months goals. šŸ™‚

  3. Hey Cyn, I’m interested to know your thoughts on the Bakery workshop. I considered doing it, but I just have too much on my plate to add something right now. Hopefully it helps get you motivated with some new ideas. Thanks for your support of the giveaways and such!

  4. It is so hard to be a one-woman show, isn’t it? I struggle with Etsy too. It’s so hard to know if what you’re doing is paying off! I’m kind of with Lindsay on this one. Sometimes Etsy makes me feel like the nerd on the playground trying to get all the cool kids to notice her.

But, stepping back and reevaluating is a very important part of running any business, so kudos to you for recognizing that need.

Best of luck this month, and can’t wait to hear about the workshop!

    • Thanks, as always, ladies! Encouraging words and understanding go a long way. If you haven’t seen me on your blog yet, I’ll be moseying over soon. Good luck this month!
