OM :: The Schmo Day

I remember snow days as magical. No school, building forts, watching TV… all super awesome for a kid.

FLIP!
Now I’m the parent. One snow day, even two, can be fun and magical for our family. The fourth and fifth snow day in two weeks are now known as Schmo Days.

schmo, shmo [?m??]
n pl schmoes, shmoes
US slang
a dull, stupid, or boring person

Parents have to work. Parents have to shovel (snow). Parents have to be responsible.
Too much snow makes us schmoes.

For a little perspective, this has been the snowiest month ever in our state’s history. In our specific area, we’ve received over 60-inches of snow since January 1. So, even though we grown-ups are whining schmoes, we have a hefty excuse.

I wish I could take every snow day and make it magical.
But I think it’s just as important to teach my children that our life takes work and doesn’t happen by magic. My moment is putting my wand away (for now.)
