Cat Stalker :: Bruin

I love cats and I’m not afraid to admit it. I find them to be a curiosity and a warm little motor to sleep next to. That’s why I’m excited to introduce you to a new member of my family. He is my kitty cousin, living with A-Dog’s brother and her sister-in-law, Jayne.
Meet Bruin.

Cat Questions
What is your name?

Bruin Thomas

What breed of cat are you?
English Bombay

How old are you?
I will be 8 months old on October 4th

Where did you come from (pound, rescue, breeder)?
I was a kitten rescue from a shelter. My people were told 3 times I was taken, but my man Dave stopped by to double check and lo and behold I was there. The three of us were destined to be together.

Do you have a unique coat or markings?
Bombays are known for their soft as silk coat – mine, however, is even softer and shinier than that.

Are you an indoor cat or an outdoor cat?
Indoor, but I can’t help myself and sometimes bolt outside to check things out.

What nicknames do the humans call you?
Little Boy & Buddy

Do you like any of your nicknames?
I love them all and run as fast as I can to see why I am being called.

What is your favorite spot to nap?
On my people, the blanket in the family room, the big black chair in the living room, on the coffee table when the sun hits it, the fireplace mantel. I guess I LOVE to nap.

Are you the boss?
Oh, most definitely.

What toy(s) would you recommend to other cats?
Anything that makes noise and moves across the floor with ease.

What is your go to toy?
crumpled paper fashioned into a ball

What is the most fashionable thing you wear?
Nothing, but I keep hearing the people talk about harnesses to travel in.

If you’re a reader, what is your favorite book?
Not much of a reader, but I adore watching sports on the television.

What is the oddest thing you’ve ever done?
Racing around the house at full speed, launching myself off of the coffee table and ending up at the top of the curtains. My people were not amused. Glad I got it out of my system.

What is your favorite activity?
Fetching. I exhaust myself fetching. If something is thrown, I MUST bring it back.

Are you hygienic or do you need baths/grooming?
Cleaning myself is a top priority, but I let my people trim my nails.

Is there somewhere you’d like to go but can’t?
On the deck – near the bird feeder.

When do you purr the loudest?
During family hug time.

What is the treat you will do anything for?
Pineapple yogurt – absolute heaven.

What act caused you to receive the greatest punishment?
Jumping onto the hot stove. I really scared the people. I know it was for my own good, but sometimes I can’t help myself.

How do you feel about dogs?
I prefer dogs to other cats.

What is your greatest skill?
Fetching and sitting on command. My people believe me to be the smartest cat in the world.

If you could speak only one sentence in your human’s language, what would you say?
I want more food.

What is your favorite human food?
As mentioned, pineapple yogurt.

If you could be granted 3 wishes, what would they be?
1.To have the whole back yard under a screen that would allow me to have safe access
2.That my people NEVER left the house
3.The ability to open cat food my cans
Not necessarily in that order…

What do you love most about your human?
Don’t ask me to pick one thing. I love them completely.

Human Questions
What is your cat’s name?

Bruin

What breed of cat do you have?
We think Bombay, but not entirely sure.

How old is your cat?
Almost 8 months.

Where did you get your cat c(pound, rescue, breeder)?
Rescue from the shelter.

What nicknames do you call your cat?
Bruin Thomas, little boy, buddy.

What words does your cat understand?
Sit. Want to eat? Where’s your ball? I think he also understands “NO!”, but he acts like he doesn’t most of the time.

What is the best thing you’ve taught your cat?
Sitting. Fetching he learned on his own.

Are you the boss?
Not at all.

Do you have other animals?
No.

Have you ever considered toilet training?
Considered it, still am, but can’t decide which toilet would be appropriate for that task.

What drives you crazy about your cat?
His indifference to being corrected.

How does your cat make you laugh?
Bruin is still a kitten, so he doesn’t have the grace of an adult cat quite yet. When he is in the middle of play time, he still makes some missteps and ends up looking surprised or embarrassed.

Is there any weird behavior you’d like to share about your cat?
He insists on burrowing himself under my neck every morning around 5:00. Initially this was fine because he was so tiny. Now, pillows have to be adjusted so we can both continue to sleep. I don’t mind though, actually I love it. He also snores.

What is your favorite activity with your cat?
Playing fetch. He could go for hours.

What toy(s) would you recommend to other cat owners?
Ones that don’t have things like strings or bells that can chewed off and unintentionally swallowed. Plain paper crumpled up into a ball is Bruin’s favorite toy.

What is the best toy you’ve given your cat?
He has received many toys, but nothing beats the paper. The best thing we have given him is his scratching post. He uses it all the time.

Where does your cat sleep?
Everywhere during the day. At night he prefers the bed.

If your cat could speak only one sentence, what would he/she say?
Yes, yes I love you, too – thanks for the all attention, now feed me.

What is the most annoying behavior your cat exhibits?
Stratching the leather furniture and jumping onto the stove.

Does your cat wear anything fashionable?
No, but we plan on taking him with us when we travel, so a harness will be in his future.

Has your cat ever destroyed anything in your home?
Where do I start? He doesn’t mean to be destructive, but he is a kitten who is full of energy. The fireplace mantel had to be emptied, the fridge had to be cleared of magnets, paper towel rolls have to be rubber band and bathroom doors HAVE to be kept shut because of the toilet paper. Screens have been poked and the leather furniture is now a little more vintage looking.

What do you love most about your cat?
He is loving, smart, entertaining and has a purr that can be heard from across the room.

:::

While Bruin is in a cat suit, I think he is a dog deep down in his fur. How many kitties do you know who are so good at fetch? Thanks for sharing yourselves here, Bruin and Auntie Jayne!
