OM :: The Fish Hand

om [one moment] meet upOM is *one moment* and is a meetup designed to notice & relish a moment in everyday life. The meetup idea was created by Linda at her blog, a la mode stuff.

If you’d like to participate in OM, just click the button and you’ll be taken to Linda’s post explaining it all. After you read this post, of course 😉

First impressions.

They can be powerful. And I think most of us would like to make a good first impression.

My Moment was an encounter with The Fish Hand.

I met a new person who will be caring for one my children at his school. I was greeted by a limp, cold, “I’d rather be doing anything else right now” kind of handshake that definitely left a first impression on me. I try not to judge anyone as a general rule in life, but I have had a hard time shaking off that limp hand. Questions rose inside of me: Will she be able to do the job? If there is an emergency, will she be confident enough to act fast and efficiently? Will she be affectionate or cold? Apparently, a handshake is not just a handshake to me.

So, this is my PSA (Public Service Announcement) for the weak of hand. This applies to both men and women, but females can lack experience with the handshake. If you decide to use one as an introduction, commit to it. Shake my hand like you got a pair (of something.)

  1. I’m a bit paranoid about my handshake: too weak, too strong? But, I do think about it each time I shake hands. I agree, at least try to make the shake count!

    Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend, Cyn.
