Photoshop Actions

I don’t consider myself a photographer, but I like to take pictures. Sometimes the photos look pretty good, sometimes I can’t believe they look as great as they do, and mostly, I’m happy that digital cameras were invented. Delete, delete, delete.

I’ve been taking a lot of product shots lately to streamline the look of my store. I get so impatient with the process that I should put myself in a Time Out. But it has taught me how to use my camera in the Manual setting. I use a Canon PowerShot A590IS, which is my third digital P+S camera, and I love it. My husband really wants an SLR and is patiently waiting for the technology to catch up with his idea of the ultimate camera. (I wish those techies would hurry up, so he can start taking my product shots.)

Anyway, the discovery of Photoshop Actions has added a lovely dimension to how I look at my photos. Some images that may have been deleted or ignored, now get a new life with a well-placed Action. My friend, Angie, of Jumping Jack Designs, recently introduced me to some wonderful actions from The Pioneer Woman. Here are some examples of how I’ve used just a few:

The first two photos were taken in my yard with my Canon and that last shot was taken with my webcam. The end result is a matter of personal preference. So, even though some other brilliant person created these actions, you can choose which one goes with what photo and adjust settings to your liking.

I’m so impressed with the detail and skill used to create these actions and want to thank The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond. She is one of those rare combinations of smart-funny-talented-generous-gifted people we’d all like to sit down with and soak up for awhile.

If you have photos or actions you’d like to share, I’d love to see them! Comment with links below 🙂

  1. I love that fresh and colorful action. I’m going to have to try it. I also use an action that reduces my files for web without compromising the color profile. It rocks. I’ll find the link and send it to you. Thanks for the mention!

  2. Those actions are on my list of things to try this summer. I’ve written a couple of my own in order to downsize photos for my blog…but I’m not doing it right, because I want them all to be 800 pix wide, lets say, and I think I do that, but when I run the action other photos end up not being that size??? Can you share the link that Angie sends you?
