Office Area to Studio Space

One of my dreams is to have a studio with room to create whatever I can imagine. As with many of you crafty people out there, I’m sure you make due with whatever space is available. I have been slowly taking over “the playroom,” which was briefly an office B.K. (Before Kids.) Now that these kids are old enough to not have as much floor time and have moved to table time, it’s time for momma to have a studio.

As I make this space my own, I will share the process here. I have some ideas about what I want cosmetically and how I want some of the work areas to be set up, but I would love, no really LOVE, any ideas that you have or have worked well for you in your space.

I have my eye on this table for the center of the room:

And I am totally going to do this to the cabinets (discovered via sfgirlbybay):

Finding time to renovate this space will be challenging, but the end result will motivate me to squeeze it in with my other responsibilities. Then, when I’m done, I’ll move on to my true fantasy studio here…

  1. yeah, momma gets her space back! (easy for me to say, i don’t have to share space with anyone). i really like the desk and the cabinets. i also happen to be obsessed with treehouses. . . no wonder we’re friends 🙂 can’t wait to see what else you come up with! any ‘before’ shots to share?

    • I was wondering if anyone was going to ask about “before” pics. When the office space is just a touch less messy, I’ll take some shots!

  2. Ooh! I always love a good before/after! 😉 I’ve got a pretty awesome studio, and it’s always a work in progress…I’m a big fin of having a place for things – but it often times takes awhile to figure out where that place is! So although we all want our studios to look and be perfect (like those we see in the magazines and on blogs) NOW – in reality, I think that it takes time – work in the space for a bit and figure out what’s missing and then add it. Keep moving things around until the stuff you use most is at your fingertips, and the stuff that’s used seldom is tucked way up high or down low…Enjoy the process, how awesome is it that you can do this!

  3. Thanks for the advice, Candy. I’ve seen your office (via your blog) and I love it! I’m looking forward to emulating it in my own space.

And I’m very lucky to have a room for my office/studio. Thankful for my good fortune everyday!

  4. […] I’m taking a trip to IKEA today to get some pieces for my s-t-u-d-i-o that I mentioned here. It’s about 45-minutes away from my house and I’m traveling there with my brother and […]
