Introducing Techie Tuesday

Are you intrigued? What does a girl who creates stationery and greeting cards know about technology? Well, I’m far from an expert, but I’d like to share some of the knowledge I’ve learned along the way. My business journey on-line has been haphazard… I created the RiverDog Prints website from scratch, through much trial and a whole bunch of error. The site is still evolving and I look forward to sharing my insights here. I had thought about sharing how to build your own website, but I found some great posts from Modish Biz Tips about starting the process, so check out Jena’s posts about that. Instead, I’ll begin by reviewing a product that has worked well for me in creating part of my website, SiteSpinner.

SiteSpinner from Virtual Mechanics is a WYSIWYG editor. Pronounced wizzy-wig, WYSIWYG is an acronym for What You See Is What You Get. Basically, when you use SiteSpinner to set up your website, it is a point and click with your mouse way of designing your pages. You don’t really need to know HTML (although it is helpful for certain things – more on this in a later post.) You can easily place images on your pages and resize them right in your work window. And creating shapes in any color, size or transparency is super easy to do. But possibly one of the best aspects of using SiteSpinner is the support you receive from the forums. Any problem or question can and will be answered by experts and software users very quickly.

I began using SiteSpinner in 2004 and still use it for parts of my site today. I prefer all things in my life to look good AND be functional. I use this editor to provide form and function to my site. There are many tools included in the software such as templates to get you started, forms and mouse-over effects. You need to play with all the possibilities once you’ve downloaded it to see if it’s a good fit for you. They offer a 15-day trial, which is just enough time to decide if you love it or not.

I love this software so much that I decided to become an affiliate for SiteSpinner. I did not take this on lightly. I am one of those people who needs to believe in what she says and has to have experienced something positive to recommend it to someone else. So, if you are ready to start building some of your very own web pages, I couldn’t be more excited for you. That has been one of my very favorite parts of RiverDog Prints. And if you’re interested in checking out SiteSpinner’s free trial, click right here. Good luck in creating a beautiful, functional website!
