I grew up playing and learning sports from my dad, so I enjoy watching, as well as participating. (And I can do a tiny bit of coaching too.)

When Abe was old enough to begin playing for our town, I was excited. How great to be able to watch my boy play on a team and experience the joy I remember. But it was not to be…

He tried T-Ball, but it wasn’t his game. He moved on to soccer and stuck with it for 3 years. I never thought I’d be watching a game with one hand over my eyes and the other over my mouth. Our town actively discourages coaching from anyone other than the coach and I completely support that rule. Following it was tough when I just wanted to help him a little. Dude, just move up a little. Attack the ball like you attack your brother. Get your finger out of your nose and your head in the game! In the end, Abe did his best, stuck it out and that is what matters. He is moving on to other pursuits and we’re all happy for him.

Then came Eli. He will play sports from wake-up to bedtime, if allowed. Any sport. He practices, he’s serious and he’s good. This was his first year to play on teams and he loved it. He would cry if he had to miss a game because of weather. I can’t wait to see where he takes this drive he has.

My moment is being proud of both my boys for who they are and what they choose to do. I love seeing glimpses of the men they will become. In honor of one sports career ending and one beginning, I marked the moment with sports cards.

:::

OM is *one moment* and is a meetup designed to notice & relish a moment in everyday life.
