It’s no secret that I have a chronic illness called Crohn’s Disease. It’s not a topic of conversation I bring up readily, as it makes some people uncomfortable. But I think not ever talking about something that is prevalent in your life is dishonest.
This past week, I had a routine colonoscopy. It requires a full day of preparation, and the older I get, the more difficult that seems to be. With the mayhem of everyday life, this routine procedure is a total monkey wrench. Plus, the gory details of all that’s involved are definitely for partners and besties only. But in all this procedure’s inconvenience and discomfort, I am reminded of what is truly important.
Almost every day, I feel well. Granted, I’ve taken many steps to achieve the best health I can have, but my appreciation for this health is enormous. I know some stories of other’s with this disease and the details are devastating. And if I broaden my thoughts to other diseases, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed by my good fortune.
My moment is appreciating my health and realizing that all the *small stuff* can be put into perspective. I have it good and will not take my temple for granted.
OM is *one moment* and is a meetup designed to notice & relish a moment in everyday life. The meetup idea was created by Linda at her blog, a la mode stuff. If you’d like to participate in OM, just click the button and you’ll be taken to Linda’s post explaining it all.

I’m so happy that your Crohn’s is manageable… and it helps give you such perspective! Here’s to cheeseburgers! 🙂
I relieved this year’s colonoscopy is “behind” you. When things are “good”, our health is easy to take for granted. Thank you for reminding me to be thankful for my own health and the health of those I love.
I totally agree that on our healthy days we don’t often say “Hmmm wow, I am feeling good,I should be grateful.”… but on those bad days….
I am happy that the colonoscopy is done and that your Crohn’s is under control. You go girl!
I didnt know but am now up-to speed w/ the details from Chris. It sounds like you’ve got everything under control (perspective and attitude). So important to have a healthy outlook in life, which is useful in all areas. I’m glad all went well.
