\"\"It’s the last day of summer camp for both my boys today and I’m just a bit wistful. My 7, soon to be 8, year-old thrives at camp. He comes home happy (and dirty) every night, excited to tell us all of the happenings for the day.
\n
\nHe has always had a certain charm about him and when I talk to the counselors, they are smitten. The enthusiasm and effusiveness for this little boy I had a part in creating, always blows me away. These young adults just rave about him and he loves them back with equal force.
\n
\nHow do I get this boy, the summer camp version, to attend 3rd grade? We had our share of downs and struggles at school last year and I’m trying to figure out what the difference is. Is it the academics? This boy is smart and quick in class and isn’t afraid to show it. Could that be an issue? I remember hiding my own smart self in middle school to be accepted. Have things sped up so much in our kids’ lives that being smart in grade school isn’t cool?

\nMy moment is enjoying this summer camp boy and hoping that ease of existence makes it’s way to school.
