These trails are on protected land not far from my neighborhood.  But they are nestled into other recently developed neighborhoods that we&#8217;ve dubbed the McMansions.  Not an original name, but we know that it means a huge house that takes up most of its acreage with landscaped grounds.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nAs I walk the trails, amongst the sounds of birds and bugs, squirrels and chipmunks, I can hear the hum and buzz of landscaping equipment.  It&#8217;s such a frequent sound, I almost don&#8217;t notice it any more.  But I did take my moment this week and listen to those sounds.  I visualized all the manicured lawns, one after the other, where the labor relies on someone else.  I don&#8217;t begrudge anyone hiring help to make their property look its best, but I don&#8217;t understand the perfection of it.  I guess I look for personality in someone&#8217;s home and I really can&#8217;t tell one from the other.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/cynthomas.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/strawberry-patch.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"strawberry-patch\" width=\"250\" height=\"393\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2417\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cynthomas.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/strawberry-patch.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cynthomas.com\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/strawberry-patch-190x300.jpg 190w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>I had picked some strawberries from our patch that morning.  I planted the patch about four years ago and last fall was the first real crop we had enjoyed.  And apparently, these are plants that bear fruit in both spring and fall (who knew?), so we&#8217;ve been enjoying homegrown, organic strawberries for a week or so.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nI&#8217;m proud of my little strawberry patch in all its wild and uneven and slightly overgrown existence.
